Frequently Asked Questions

What is ThistleCAT?

ThistleCAT grew out of a weeding project undertaken in 2015 at the Virginia Military Institute's Preston Library. It was developed by Rachel Maderik to provide the library's Collection Development Task Force with the data it needed to help guide the project. VMI has graciously released the source code for other libraries to use under the GNU General Public License.

So what is ThistleCAT.org?

ThistleCAT.org was set up by ThistleCAT's developer to serve as a central location for information and updates about the product. We also provide support, hosting, and data migration services for libraries who require assistance in using ThistleCAT. ThistleCAT.org is not affiliated with the Virginia Military Institute.

Where can I download it?

The source code is available at GitHub.

What are the system requirements?

Detailed system requirements will be available on GitHub, but basically you need a web server that can run MySQL and PHP.

Does it work with all integrated library systems?

Probably. Because it's built around a MySQL database, ThistleCAT should work with any ILS that can export a delimited report of item data.
